Lessons From The Classroom - Snow Day

Last Saturday we had a snow day.  Yes, Raleigh, NC was covered in snow...andthe kids were giddy with excitement as it floated down to the ground.  It was so nice to be able to be at home for a snow day with nowhere to go.  You might remember my bad attitude disappointment last year after missing all of our snow at home because we were traveling so much.  Oh well:)

Anyway, after several minutes of simply admiring the events that were unfolding outside Areyna ran and got all bundled up from head to toe and then asked for a black sheet of paper.  I immediately knew exactly what she was doing.

We have this book called The Magic School Bus Lost in the Snow.  The teacher, Miss Frizzle explains to her class all about the different shapes of snowflakes and where snow and ice crystals come from.  The last page of the book shows a picture of the kids holding black pieces of construction paper out of their classroom windows so they can examine the differences between the snow flakes.

So, that is exactly what we did.  Then we came in and sipped on hot chocolate and warmed up in front of the fire.  It was such a great day!
